FAQ - PassMyBits

Below are answers to the most common questions from new and existing customers about the website and app.

1

Getting started

+What is PassMyBits?

PassMyBits is a secure digital vault for your digital legacy. You store passwords, documents, notes, and instructions in encrypted Passes and decide when trusted people may access them.

+Who is PassMyBits for?

For anyone who wants to organize digital information and share it with family or business partners when needed.

+Is PassMyBits a legal will?

No. PassMyBits is a practical complement and does not provide legal or financial advice.

2

Security and privacy

+How is my data protected?

Everything is encrypted in your browser with AES-256 (AES-GCM). PassMyBits uses a zero-knowledge model and never sees unencrypted data.

+Can PassMyBits read or reset my Pass passwords?

No. Pass passwords and decryption keys are not stored. If you lose them, a Pass cannot be recovered.

+Where is data stored?

Data is stored within the EEA with EU-based providers. See the Privacy Policy for details.

3

Passes and content

+What is a Pass?

A Pass is a separate encrypted vault with its own password, settings, and trustees.

+What can I store in a Pass?

Structured notes, passwords, documents, and files. Supported files: PDF, MP3, MP4, JPG, PNG, HEIC. Total account storage depends on your plan.

+How many Passes can I create?

It depends on your plan; some plans allow unlimited Passes.

4

Trustees and access

+How does trustee access work?

You add a trustee and generate an access card (PDF). The trustee then needs 3 separate items: the PDF token, a trustee password that you choose yourself, and the existing Pass password. The trustee password starts the request. After the waiting period ends, the trustee must enter the token and trustee password again before the existing Pass password is used to open the Pass contents.

+Can I add multiple trustees or change them later?

Yes. You can add multiple trustees, revoke access, or regenerate access cards at any time.

+What does PAUSE do?

PAUSE temporarily blocks all trustee access for your account. While PAUSE is active, trustees cannot activate or view any of your Passes, even if they have a valid token and passwords.

+Can I change the waiting period?

Yes, you can update the timelock hours in the Pass settings.

5

Subscriptions and billing

+Is there a free trial?

If a trial is available for your plan, you will see the trial days in Pricing and in your account. Billing starts after the trial ends.

+How does billing work?

Plans are billed monthly or yearly, depending on the plan you choose. Payments are handled by Mollie and invoices are available in your account.

+Can I cancel?

Yes. You keep access until the end of the current billing period. After cancellation, data is retained up to 90 days and then removed.

+Why are new registrations currently limited to EU residents?

For now, we intentionally allow only new EU registrations because international tax and compliance rules are changing quickly across regions. This reduces legal uncertainty while we expand support country by country.
